Do you want to level your mage from level 1-80 as fast as possible to catch up with your guild mates? Great! That’s what my mage leveling guide is all about: Helping you to level faster and have more fun while doing so.

Why do you need a mage leveling guide? A guide will help you to increase your leveling speed and catch up with your friends. You can ding 80 in less than 7 days /played time. Perhaps even faster. But if you try to figure everything out yourself, you will waste hours of your time, face lots of frustrating situations and your friends have to wait for you (if they actually want to wait that long…).

Now, a mage guide actually consists of 5 parts – each part alone will help you to increase your leveling speed, but only if they all act together you will be able to literally “fly through the levels”.

The parts that I´m talking about are: A race with racial bonuses that match your goals. A proven talent build, optimized for leveling. The matching Glyphs to support it. The right gear and an in-game add-on that guides you through your quests.

The 5 Pillars Of Leveling A Mage

Race When you are starting your character from scratch, don’t miss the opportunity to optimize your race! Every race offers different benefits for different aspects of the game.

  • My recommended Horde race: Trolls – They deal more damage with “Berserk” and can level faster.
  • My recommended Alliance race: Gnomes – More mana, better in PvP, Bonus to Engineering.

Talent Build No character can really level fast without the right talent build. When it comes to leveling a mage, there are 2 popular and effective talent specs:

  • The frost leveling spec – Focuses on killing groups of mobs with AoE spells.
  • The fire leveling spec – Focuses on killing a single target in mere seconds.

Glyphs

Glyphs are items that you can equip in you Glyph slots to enhance your spells and abilities. You get one major Glyph slot at level 15 and one at level 30. Get the Glyphs that perfectly support your leveling build and you can save hours of your time.

Gear and Stats

When talking about gear, I’m actually talking about the right stats. Every item has stats on it that increase your attributes. There are many attributes, but only a few are relevant for leveling. Here are the stats and priority that I highly recommend:

Spell Power > Critical Hit Rating > Intellect > Stamina

Questing Add-On

In the past, grinding was a popular way to level faster… killing the same monster again and again, sounds fun, right? Well, not really… thank god those times are over!

Today questing is the one and only way to level as fast as possible. But all quests are not created equal: Some quests offer big rewards while others are designed to slow you down! Those so-called “junk-quests” take hours of your time, are very frustrating and in the end you get almost nothing in return.

Luckily you don’t have to put up with this – today you can get an add-on that tells you step-by-step where to go and which quests to complete in order to get 80 ASAP.

If you don’t want to waste days of your time I highly recommend you to get such an in-game mage leveling guide add-on right now.

Ahh, Northrend, the last station on your long way from level 1-80. Or from level 70-80 if you are leveling a BC character. This Mage leveling guide 70-80 will give you an overview over the best route through the cold continent.

I’m going to assume that you are already familiar with your talent build and you are probably leveling with the Mage’s AoE Frost spec. So let’s jump right into the interesting part: Your questing path.

There are more quests in Northrend than in any other area you have encountered before. That means if you don’t get your questing path dialed you will waste more time than ever before, too! You are one step away from hitting 80 and enjoying the endgame content with your friends but it will still take you days or weeks to get through Northrend without an efficient questing path…

The best way to streamline your questing path is to get an in-game mage leveling guide for level 70-80 to provide you with a step-by-step introduction.

Now let’s take a look at your way through the cold continent:

Starting Zone: Borean Tundra (70-72)

Borean Tundra

No matter if you are fighting for the Alliance or for the Horde, the Borean Tundra is a great place to start your journey through the last remaining levels.

The Howling Fjord (72-74)

Howling Fjord

The Howling Fjord is the second starting zone. If you want you can also start exploring Northrend from here but I somehow prefer the Tundra as my first waypoint. That makes the Howling Fjord the second area to visit.

Dragonblight (74-76)

Dragonblight

The third part of your journey should give you another two full levels.

Grizzly Hills (76-77)

Grizzly Hills

The Grizzly Hills will be the first area where you will feel like leveling gets harder. You will spend more time and get less experience and probably won’t get two full levels like in the last areas.

At level 77 you can finally purchase Cold Weather Flying and start travelling the easy way again. Don’t forget to get it ASAP as it will greatly help you leveling.

Zul’Drak (77-79)

Zul Drak

The next step in this mage leveling guide 70-80 leads you to Zul’Drak. Can you feel the tension building up? Only a little bit more experience and you will finally ding 80!

Icecrown (79-80)

Icecrown

My mage leveling guide 70-80 recommends you to get your last experience right here. In fact there are more options right now, but I think the Icecrown represents what lies ahead of you in the best possible way. If you have made it this far, level 80 is in your reach. Grab it!
