World of Warcraft mages are awesome. They are powerful casters and a fierce foe both in PvE as well as PvP. Fast leveling a mage isn’t that difficult later on because you have a nice arsenal of offensive spells to choose from to kill quest mobs within seconds.
Here are a few components that determine your mage leveling speed:
- Mana efficiency (How much bang for your buck you get in terms of mana)
- Your ability to control crowds of mobs
- The power of the spell
You have only little influence on two of those components. Gear that increases your spell power is rare in lower levels. It’s just a matter of getting to know the spells to make smart decisions when tinkering with your skill rotation.
Your ability to control crowds comes into play when you have a frost mage. Handling a bunch of mobs simultaneously can be tricky but once you get a hang of it, you can wipe out lots of quest mobs very fast. This is not as important with the other talent builds.
So what’s the best talent build for fast leveling your mage toon?
If you’re not good at handling crowds of mobs, you can choose between arcane and fire. Arcane has the highest mana efficiency. You pay little mana to do the damage but the spells aren’t as powerful. That means it can take longer too!
Fire is the talent tree with the most powerful spells – but they are only efficient against single mobs and cost a lot of mana. You have to kill one mob after another – taking on many at once will probably kill you.
Which one to choose?
The best tree for later levels is Frost. You can handle up to ten mobs simultaneous – impossible with a fire spec.
To level faster in the early stages of the game though, you can start out with fire and later switch over to Frost.
Okay then, what else do you need to know for fast leveling a mage?
You need to do lots and lots of quests in the shortest amount of time humanly possible.
If you want really fast leveling speed, consider playing using a leveling guide that shows you how to leave out all the quests that take a long time for little in return.
Your goal: Maximum XP for minimum hours /played time.
